According to a study published last June, the number of human embryos cryopreserved following artificial reproduction has reached a record level in the UK. In 2021-2022, there were more than 5,000 referrals to the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS) run by Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust (compared with 250 in 2011-2012).
